Jackson thought he represented the entire nation, so he should have a hand in shaping legislation that affected it. He was the first President whose wishes “Congress would have to consider before passing laws.”

He vetoed twelve bills because the thought them harmful to the country. The previous six Presidents vetoed a total of nine bills between them.
