Taylor’s daughter Knox married Jefferson Davis in June 1835. The newlyweds stayed with the groom’s sister for while and the happy couple contracted malaria. Knox died that September. Davis mourned for eight years, living on and managing his brother’s plantation.
Davis was always considered part of the family, though. When it was clear that Taylor was dying, he rushed to be with the President, his wife and daughters.
