Women’s Rights in 1848

While the political parties were having their conventions in 1848 to select their nominees, 200 women and 40 men met in Seneca Falls, New York to attend the first conference on women’s rights. The media of the day laughed at the thought of women voting, owning property, etc., but this convention was held every year and 72 years later, women won the right to vote in federal elections.
