In 1875, Grant sent the military to check out the black hills gold situation knowing it may start a war with the Indians. General Custer went but Grant did not want him in charge because Grant considered Custer a “prima donna with no respect for authority.” Grant was smart in not making him the leader as he disobeyed orders to take it slow and rushed into Little Big Horn where he and his troops were massacred by Indians. 260 soldiers died.
